In type I second-degree atrioventricular block (Wenckebach phenomenon) there is an AV conduction block with a progressive lengthening of PR interval of previous beats. In other words: there is a progressive PR interval lengthening until a P wave is not conducted (Wenckebach phenomenon). As you can see, this is much simpler to memorize and it concisely describes the EKG findings for each type of heart block. Wenckebach is a type of second degree heart block, and we will discuss the different types of second degrees below.

This can be described by the formula 2n+(2/n), where n is the number of observed QRS complexes within a given period. This can be indirectly diagnosed by the observation of ‘group beating’ that is typical of Wenckebach periods.

05/31/2018; Standard 12-Lead In Wenckebach's 1906 paper, his original observations were from increasing delay in contraction of the atria & ventricles that shortened after a brief pause and this was later observed on ECG after Einthoven's invention in 1901 that became the electrocardiogram (ECG). Wenckebach is credited for describing the median bundle of the heart's conductive system that connects the sinoatrial node to the atrioventricular node. This bundle was named Wenckebach's bundle, and is also known as the middle internodal tract. ECG 4. The ECG above belongs to a 65 years-old woman complaining of dizziness.
